Acer japonicum ‘Acotinifolium’ – Downy Japanese Maple

Out of stock

Unlike other Japanese Maples, Acer japonicum ‘Acotinifolium’ copes relatively well with windy conditions, and the older specimens can handle the frost.  The flowers appear before the leaves in spring and are attractive drooping corymbs of small purplish-red flowers. The leaves are almost fern like and go from a fresh green colour to bright orange and red in the autumn. This makes it one of the most beautiful Acer trees and is a great addition to any garden big or small.

Acer japonicum are slow growing and naturally form very attractive shapes so they’re quite easy to maintain. They do tend to die back on some of the new growth every year, these bits are easily pruned out and help give the canopy shape. They’ll also tolerate living in a large pot or container for a long time so they’re perfect for balconies or patios.
