Elaeagnus x ebbingei is a small evergreen tree with a rounded canopy. This very tough evergreen can cope with most conditions, even being planted very close to the ocean. This makes them ideal plants for coastal gardens. We crown lift them to reveal their interesting branch structure, and that allows for underplanting to create a more interesting shape for a garden.
Small cream-white tube shaped flowers appear late summer into early autumn and have a strong sweet scent. Very occasionally the flowers are followed by pale orange edible fruit which are ovoid in shape. Elaeagnus x ebbingei prefer a semi-shaded area, but in milder climates they can tolerate full sun.
