Here at New Wood Trees, we believe that trees are so much more than just elements of a planting scheme—they are living, breathing sculptures that shape the landscape, create atmosphere, and bring a sense of place.
Every tree has its own unique character, evolving with the seasons and growing into something truly individual over time. And we love to challenge our customers to think outside of the box when choosing trees. Finding varieties that do more than just fill a space—trees that bring structure, movement, or a touch of the unexpected. Trees to become a focal point, a conversation starter, and a presence in their landscape.
Adding a New Wood Trees charm to the Field of Possibility
We were delighted to work with Field of Possibility recently, a sanctuary dedicated to nurturing wellbeing, resilience, and creativity in the heart of Devon. Their mission is to help individuals connect with their natural state of health and potential through transformative training, coaching, and retreats. We’re very proud to support their commitment to creating environments that foster healing, creativity, and connection.

To enrich their tranquil environment, we helped in selecting trees that would add distinctive character to their landscape. The existing planting in the field was with young deciduous trees that disappear in winter, so Philip our founder, encouraged Kirstien to consider options that provided year-round interest and structure. Embracing this vision, together we chose the Pinus sylvestris, commonly known as Scots Pine.
Pinus sylvestris – Scots Pine
The Scots Pine is a fast-growing, very hardy, medium-sized evergreen conifer, with a persistent single stem it typically reaches heights of up to 36m tall. The needles have a dark grey/blue hue with a slight twist creating beautiful textures, it features a beautiful distinctive flaking orange-red bark and blue-green needle-like leaves, and the canopies on mature specimens are full of quirk and character.
Scots Pine was an excellent choice for the Field of Possibility because of their striking form and evergreen presence which will bring year-round structure and interest, while their textured bark and soft, airy canopies will add a natural, softening quality to the landscape.

Advice for staking newly planted trees
Whilst working with the team there Philip gave some valuable advice about staking their trees, he shares it in this video:

“We had such a joyful experience with New Wood Trees, and appreciated their thoughtful expertise and guidance on selecting and planting the trees. They fit right at home in the Field of Possibility and we have no doubt they will thrive.”
