Crataegus laevigata ‘Crimson Cloud’ is a small tree with beautiful pink flowers and white centres. This creates a stunning display during the month of May when this tree flowers, giving the blossoms a two-tone effect. Unlike Crataegus laevigata ‘Paul’s Scarlet’, the flowers are fertile so they are followed by plenty of haws (fruit) at the end of summer. This is an added bonus as the haws attract birds to the garden and helps them fatten up for winter.
Crataegus laevigata ‘Crimson Cloud’ makes a beautiful little characterful tree as they produce a irregular canopy which forms an umbrella shape over time. This can be helped along with a little creative pruning. They don’t have many thorns (compared to Crataegus monogyna), so they’re not too scary for those who are put off by spikes!
